In order to improve the quality of national education in stages, planned, and measured according to the mandate of Law No. 20 Year 2003 regarding National Education System, Chapter XVI Part Two of Article 60 of Accreditation, the Government commits to assess feasibility of accreditation programs and / or educational unit. In this context, the Government has established the National Accreditation Board of School / Madrasah (BAN-S / M) with Minister of National Education Regulation No. 29 of 2005. BAN-S / M is an independent evaluation agency that defines the feasibility of the program and / or educational unit of primary and secondary levels of education with reference to the formal national education standards. As an institution that is independent under and responsible to the Minister of Education, BAN-S / M task to formulate operational policies, to disseminate the policy, and implement the accreditation of schools / madrasas. In implementing the accreditation of schools / madrasas, BAN-S / M is assisted by Provincial Accreditation Board School / Madrasah (PAN-S / M) which was established by the Governor, according to Government Regulation Number 19 Year 2005 on National Education Standards, particularly Article 87 paragraph (2 ).



Implementation of accredited school / madrasa year 2009 and the device is using an accreditation criteria referring to the eight components of National Education Standards for the education unit of SD / MI (Permendiknas No. 11 of 2009), SMP / MTs (Permendiknas No. 12 of 2009), SMK / MAK (Permendiknas Number 13 Year 2009), and SMA / MA (Permendiknas No. 52 of 2008). For that, it must be arranged Accreditation Policies and Guidelines for School / Madrasah is intended as a reference in execution accredited school / madrasa in 2009. Also please be informed that, the implementation of accreditation for the educational unit of TK / RA and special schools are still using the old instruments. Therefore, the technique of scoring, the criteria of status, and accreditation ratings related to the implementation of accreditation of TK / RA and SLB still refer to the guidelines for accreditation of the old implementation.



With the release of the Policy and Guidelines for Accreditation of School / Madrasah, the BAP-S / M and related parties are expected to carry out accreditation of schools and madrasas in an objective, fair, professional, comprehensive and transparent as a form of public accountability.
